The Ford Ranger can be relied upon for many years and miles. Following a rigorous routine maintenance schedule is key to getting the maximum life out of Your Ranger. Changing the oil and filter along with Your air filters at regular intervals will go a long way to extending the life Your vehicle. Take it easy on the gas pedal and the brakes, don't over accelerate and drive faster than needed and don't slam on the brakes when coming to a stop. Doing so will unnecessarily wear out components prematurely. As with any vehicle normal wear and tear is to be expected, the battery will fail, but generally last three to five years or more. The brake pads will wear out, but will depend on how aggressively You use them.

Ford rangers will last for a long time if they are well maintained (up to 200-250k miles), except for timing chain failure.

One of my 1994 Rangers (I have two) has over 500k on it now. No major work needed yet on the little 2.3L, but I did rebuild the manual transmission at 278k.

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger and it just turned 200,000 miles. I have had several company cars which really helped keep the mileage low. But for the past few years it’s been my sole vehicle. I have maintained it regularly, mostly oil changes and such. Worse thing to happen so far is the a/c broke, and the replacement lasted only 1 year. So I have given up on a/c. The rear brake pads were replaced at about 185000. Starter is showing signs of possible issue. The truck is as comfortable a ride as it was brand new. I love my 20 year old Ranger, it still looks great despite wear and tear, and I intend to hold on to it as long as reasonable. Can’t speak for the new ones; they don’t even look the same. Also, mine is a manual and I still love driving a stick shift!

I have a 1997 Ranger with 287000 miles on it. I’ve driven it for 22 years and only replaced the timing belt and clutch! It’s been very good to me so I can’t stand the thought of getting rid of it!!

I have a 1996 ford ranger splash 4.0L V6 with a little over 200k. I replaced the tranny.the starter, and intake plenum gaskets. Now she runs like a champ with the 2 1/2 inch Walker headers I put on it. Very good truck.

I have a 95 Ford Ranger. 4cyl stick extenda cab. I bought in 1995 with 16k miles on it. Its got about 366, 000 on it now. I have replaced the clutch yrs ago. I have replaced the rear leaf Spring years ago and the timing chain about 4 years ago. All very relatively cheap repairs.its very easy to work on. Still gets 24 mpgs hwy too. Have been through 6 different vehicles during this time, but I always kept my old ranger. When it came time to buy new truck. I decided to buy a2020 Ford Ranger but I still kept my ol95 .one of the best vehicles of ever had my life

I have a 96 Ranger, and it has just turned over 300000 miles. The engine has never been opened, and it still runs great. I did have the timing chain break, but since the 2.3L has the non interference head, no damage was done. Great truck!
