There have been reported problems with the liftgate on the Ford Escape. Usually the problems are caused by the liftgate getting stuck and jammed down so that it is not able to open. The liftgate uses a power motor to open and close and if that has electrical problems like a blown fuse, or an actual damaged motor, that will lead to the system not working properly either. You will want to check those things if it is not opening when You press the button on Your fob. Another common problem is the latch can get stuck locked. There is a manual release You can get to by accessing the liftgate from inside the cabin and removing the panel on it if the lock and latch do get stuck.

The lift gate switch in my 2020 Ford Escape is disabled and I cannot enable it, both options are grayed out in the settings. It is at the Ford dealership now, they can't enable it either and don't know what to do and are contacting Ford.

I'm having the opposite problem. Mine opens by itself while parked and has done it twice while I was driving!

I have a 2019 Ford Escape, the latch is stuck down, from what I’ve seen this is a reoccurring problem with Ford for years. I took it to Ford Dealership, they wanted $145 to hook up to a machine tell them what was wrong with this reoccurring problem Ford refuses to fix, it makes lots of money

Looking for help as well, on my 2017 escape the trunk would randomly open sometimes. I even came out of the grocery to my trunk being wide open. Then in the last 6 months or so it won’t open. I have to lock, unlock, try the button by the steering wheel and the button on the handle repeatedly and if I’m lucky it might open.

We have 2022 Escape. Owned for 2 months. Lift gate opens without being close to the car. We took it to dealership this week and they couldn’t find anything wrong so nothing done. Onetime it opened when we pulled out of gas station.

I have had mine for 2 months on November 9th andO have had multiple issues with the tailgate not closing for extended periods of time. It just started snowing an I fear opening my tailgate or it will be stuck open from anywhere from 10-45 minutes! Frustrating and should not be happening, makes me feel extremely unsafe.

We have a 2020 Ford Escape and the tailgate door opens up when we open the garage door. I took it to a Ford Dealer and after 1 1/2 days no fix found. We now manually close the tailgate door. We should not have to do this.
