The 2000 Nissan Frontier uses a timing chain for the 2.4 L 4Cylinder and a timing belt for the 3.3 L V6 engine. The belt is located on the outside of the engine and the chain is on the inside of the engine. The belt needs to be changed every so often and the chain is meant to last for the life of the vehicle but it can break down. For the Frontier You should change the timing belt every 105,000 miles or so. The cost to change the timing belt is anywhere from $380 to $510 in labor costs and extra for parts costs. You should just inspect the chain every 150,000 miles or so incase something went wrong with it.
