Each configuration of the 2004 Toyota RAV4Comes with a 2.4L 4Cylinder engine; another user here may be confused, as the V6 wasn't introduced until 2006. Regardless, the engine is driven by a timing chain. Though advantages and disadvantages exist for both forms of timing, You'll often find automotive experts agreeing that the chain is superior. This is due, largely, to the fact that Your estimated lifetime is 250,000 to 300,000 miles; there's a good chance the rest of Your RAV4 will fail before Your timing chain does. However, in the event of unfortunate stretching or other damage, You'll be looking at up to $3,000 in repairs -- not including whatever damage the failure did to the rest of the engine.
