The 2005 Nissan Altima doesn't have a cvt transmission. The transmission fluid needs to be replaced every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Along with fluid changes, terrible sounds will come from the transmission. Old transmission fluid will be awful to the ear. A worn out torque converter will cause a headache. The transmission is one of the most crucial parts of the vehicle. You will come into issues at some point. Delayed shifts will cause acceleration issues. The transmission might slip. You could experience shudders. Hard shifts could arise and that is not good. There may be jerking. The gears might become stuck. If the transmission fluid leaks, that needs to be fixed quickly.

The 2005 Nissan Altima does not come with a CVT transmission as an option. The only transmission options available are: 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual (SE-R only), 4-speed automatic, and 5-speed manumatic (3.5L SE, 3.5L SL, or 3.5L SE-R only).

Then it might be okay. I like used cars that will generally go 300000 miles or more with proper maintenance. The CVT transmissions routinely failed at or below 150000 miles.
