The 2005 Toyota Camry comes with either a timing chain or a timing belt depending on the engine option. The 2.4L 4Cylinder comes with a chain, and the V6 comes with a timing belt. In my opinion a timing chain is a better option than a belt because it does not need to be serviced as much. A belt needs to be replaced every 60,000 to 100,000 miles where a chain should be good for over 300,000 miles. You should still make a point to inspect it at least once a year though to make sure that it is free from debris and not loose because a broken timing belt or chain can lead to damage to the engine.

The 2005 Toyota Camry with the 2.4L inline-4 engine option uses a timing chain. Both, the 3.0L V6 engine and the 3.3L V6 engine options, use timing belts.
