The 2006 Ford Focus comes with a timing chain on the engine as standard. The timing chain is an improvement over the belt because it requires less servicing. Usually a timing belt service is the most expensive service You will need to do to Your car and it has to be done every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. With a timing chain You should be able to drive over 300,000 miles with no problems. I still recommend that You check Your chain at least once a year to make sure that it is not loose and free from debris.
