The 2006 Ford Focus comes with a timing chain on the engine as standard. The timing chain is an improvement over the belt because it requires less servicing. Usually a timing belt service is the most expensive service You will need to do to Your car and it has to be done every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. With a timing chain You should be able to drive over 300,000 miles with no problems. I still recommend that You check Your chain at least once a year to make sure that it is not loose and free from debris. You will also still need to change Your water pump every 100,000 miles which is driven by the timing chain.
