Yes, Your 2008 Chevrolet Impala does have a fuel filter, though it's part of the tank fuel pump module and typically considered as a non-serviceable part. The cost to have a mechanic replace the filter, which is what GM intends, is about $125, which will include both parts and labor. Indications that the fuel filter may be going bad is You'll encounter poor engine performance, hard starting, stalling, rough idling and random mIS Firing, and, of course, fuel system part failures and subsequent check engine lights illuminating on Your instrument panel.

Can you take the inlet line off at the engine and using an air compressor and a small spray nozzle blow back through the line to get the filter to function until she has the money to replace the entire pump. In other words a temporary fix. Can that be performed with OK results?

Yes, the 2008 Chevy Impala has a fuel filter. It's the located inside the fuel tank - called a sock - near the fuel pump assembly.

Gavin is correct, there is a fuel filter located inside the gas tank, it is not a regular maintenance item, however. You get a new filter when you get a new pump most likely.
