The 2008 Ford Escape is known to have problems with the brake system. This can include ABS system failures, as well as soft brake feel due to brake booster problems. The most common problem has to do with the ABS computer. This can lead Your vehicle's anti lock brakes to fail and that can lead to the brakes locking up when You are driving since the system does not pulse them properly. Usually this will trigger a light at the dash. You will need to use an OBD II scan tool to read the code from the light to pinpoint the part of it that failed. It is important to keep an eye on Your brake system because it is necessary for safety.

Hi im a mechanic of 10 years i work in Fort Worth TX. So, a customer's car came in 2008 ford escape 4wd v6 3.0 having issues with pedal going to floor. Replaced front pads and rotors, adjusted the rear brake shoes bled the system multiple times, bench bled the master multiple times. The vehicle has no codes but a constant soft pedal, after replacing most of the braking system, abs pump was recommended and fixed the issue

I have a 2008 4wd escape. One day coming home my brake pedal went to the floor and I almost hit the car in front of me. I went to a mechanic the next day it drove normal then a week later it did it again so back to the shop and same thing it acted normal. They told me it might be the abs module but with no warnig lights it was to costly to fix. Ford needs to recall this pos. As soon as I can I'm getting rid of it. It's to dangerous to drive. No more fords for me.

My breaks just now failed me without warning. Happened about 10min ago. I put car in reverse to exit parking spot and nothing happened when I pushed breaks . No pressure. Break pedal was slow to return to the position. I flipped gear into park and turned off car. I then turned car back on, manually pumped break and got pressure back in the pedal. Then I went into neutral and coasted forward, back into parking lot. I drive this car maybe 1 day a week and about 20 miles away. There's lots of sharp winding curves on the way through the country highway 2 lane (total) Mtn pass. This could've killed me. SERIOUSLY. Nobody would've known it was a malfunctioning break. When I turn car on now, breaks feel real stiff. I will never drive this car again. I'm driving my 1984 Ford mustang. The old cars are the only thing you can count on. I will take a manual stick over automatic. Old gas car that's easy to fix over these electronic cars.

In November 2020, I had a similar experience with the brake pedal on my ‘08 Ford Escape “shuddering” and going to the floor. My mechanic could not replicate the experience and speculated that it could be a master cylinder or abs problem but everything checked out. The same thing happened again this December 2021 - a year later! The car is at the mechanics as we speak and he’s having the same problem as last year - can’t replicate the issue despite several drive tests and no indication that there’s anything wrong with the abs system - so frustrating!
