The 2008 Honda CR-V comes equipped with a timing chain, instead of the common timing belt. The use of a chain ensures the part is more likely to last the full lifetime of Your vehicle, or about 150,000 miles, or 10 years. A timing belt would need to be changed regularly, usually every 6 months or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first. With a chain, You shouldn't have to ever change it. If Your do experience a chain break, You can expect to pay between $80 and $189 for a replacement part. It will most likely be covered by warranty, but if it isn't, You will pay an additional $98 to $284 for labor, unless You take on the take Yourself.

A timing belt Is a major expense which needs to be done once or twice over the life of the car, and it needs to be done before it breaks or the car is basically ruined. It is NOT something that's changed out every 5k. The 2008 model, however, has a timing chain which I believe is more advantageous.

The 2008 Honda CR-V comes with a timing chain. Though the chain is more durable than the belt, you might consider having at checked during routine maintenance or if you are replacing a water pump.
