The 2009 Nissan Murano comes equipped with a timing chain rather than a timing belt and has been using the chain since the first year it was produced. One big reason why it might be using the chain is because it requires less maintenance than the belt. The chain is meant to last for the life of the vehicle but the belt needs to be replaced every so often. The reason why You don't really needs to change the chain is because it is on the inside of the engine and isn't exposed unlike the belt which is on the outside of the engine and is exposed. You should inspect the chain every 150,000 miles or so because it is not unheard of for it to go bad.

The 2009 Nissan Murano does not use a timing belt. It has a timing chain on the 3.5L V6 engine it comes with.
