All model years, includinG2011, of the Acura MDX use a timing belt. Acura recommends replacing this every 60,000 to 100,000 miles, to account for routine wear and tear; failing to do so could result in catastrophic failure, and if it happens at highway speeds, could represent a serious risk to the safety or even life of the driver and others. Contrast this to a timing chain, which typically lasts for the lifetime of the vehicle. The good news is that when You do replace Your timing belt, it'll represent a bit of a coSTSavings over what would happen if a timing chain did fail; the bad news is that You may have to do it 3 or 4 times over the lifetime of the vehicle. There are advantages and disadvantages to each!
