The 2011 Chevy Silverado does have active fuel management. What this does is allow the V8 engine to switch to "V4" mode by essentially making four of the cylinders inoperable. This is done to help improve fuel economy when driving under light load conditions (e.g., lower speeds low or no towing). Stats have shown A5.5 to 7.5 percent improvement. To shut down half the cylinders the exhaust valve is prevented form opening which is followed by a closed exhauSTStroke. After that the intake valve is unable to open. Some prefer not to use this feature due to failure of the lifters being a common problem. Others simply prefer to use the entirety of the V8 engine at all times. To disable the system You can use what is called an AFM Delete Kit which will replace the associated components with standard parts. The other option is using an AFM Disabler which is a device You plug into the OBD-II port which then stops the signal to the ECU to switch modes.

Yes, the 2011 Chevy Silverado does AFM - Active Fuel Management - but only on the V8 engines.
