The 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid has a well-known issue with the transfer shaft assembly bearing. The bearing has been reported by numerous drivers that it fails prematurely. It also caused issues with the transmission. When this happens, thumping, rubbing, or grinding noises may be heard from the transmission. Additionally, the check engine light may illuminate due to a manufacturing known fault in the transmission. There was a service bulletin issued by Ford. They will repair or replace it depending on the extent of the damage. This service can be completed free of charge under Fords new-car, powertrain, or extended warranty.

I purchased a 2013 cmax, used, with less than 18k miles. I was thrilled. Within the next 6 months, I brought it to 2 separate ford dealerships due to sounds i heard from the transmission. Both Ford dealerships couldnt "recreate" the sound. So my warranty ran out, and my transmission continued to decline. 2 years later im spending $4.5 on a new transmission, and ford takes no responsibility.

Purchased a 2013 max used with 58,000 miles - pristine condition - so I thought - total catastrophic transmission failure days out of factory warranty -

We have 2 Ford c-maxes, a 2013 and a 2014. Just received word that the 2014’s transmission is failing at 82,000 miles. Online, it looks like the cost to replace is about 6k. If that’s true, the case is essentially worthless. I already made $700 of repairs earlier this year to replace another common C-Max problem. I would not buy a C-Max w/o an extended warranty, period.

2013 C-max. Trans is junk and big bucks to fix. $3K for a used unit. These things fall apart.
