The 2014 Toyota Tacoma uses a timing chain instead of a timing belt. It did briefly use the timing belt for the years 1995 througH2004 for the V6 engines but switched to the chain in the year 2005 and has been using it since. It is better to use the chain because it usually doesn't need to be replaced unlike the belt. If a vehicle uses a belt it should be changed every 60,000 to 100,000 miles however if it uses a chain it should only need to be inspected every 150,000 miles or so. The chain will probably not fail but it is still good to inspect it just by the off chance that something happened. If something goes wrong it is probably a problem with the tension on it.
