The 2017 Chevy Equinox does not come with Apple CarPlay. CarPlay from Apple allows You to use apps directly from Your phone on Your touch screen. Apple CarPlay is a relatively new feature that was introduced and many automotive makers were not prepared for it. It can take years to develop a vehicle's infotainment system and it is hard to make changes once it is in production. I would expect CarPlay to be a feature that is available in most cars in the future as they are more prepared for it now. Many brands have also moved to being able to do CarPlay wirelessly over bluetooth as the technology has advanced.

Apple CarPlay is part of the ever-increasing push for more portable technology in vehicles. To allow for this feature, a manufacturer needs the software as well as the hardware to connect the iPhone. Some manufacturers have chosen not to include this feature. The Equinox does not have this feature. It does, however, have Bluetooth as well as Wi-Fi capabilities.
