The 2017 Ford Escape does indeed appear to have some complaints from drivers about various paint problems on the exterior of the vehicle. The prevalence of issues appears higher for those with white paint. In particular, the paint appears to bubble up over time, then flake away, creating large pock marks in the finish. Numerous areas are affected, including the hood, top, and areas around the windshield. Metal is often exposed by the persistent flaking. There are no reports of Ford takeng action to resolve the issue, and drivers are left to their own means to fix it. A full re-painting of the vehicle is likely needed. This can cost between $298 and $986.

It's been 2 weeks since I noticed the same issue of paint chipping (large pieces) on the left side of windshield. I am heartbroken since this is the 1st car I purchased myself in a long time. I'm afraid to wash it for fear it will "spread". If Ford won't take responsibility for it then who will?

SAME ISSUE!!! So frustrating!!! I have a 2017, Star White, Ford Escape SE. The paint just started to bubble up and flake off on the driver side front pillar (just left of the windshield). You can see other spots where it's going to happen as well. I brought it into the dealer asap. But, I was 1,580 miles past my 36k bumper to bumper warranty. I got no help from the dealer or from Ford. So disappointed.Where is the class action suit? Sign me up!

I have a 2017 Ford Escape Titanium with less than 18,000 miles on it. All of the paint around the windshield is gone! Ford refused to fix it and the insurance I bought with it (ECP) said it wasn’t their problem, either. No hail, no snow; just poor workmanship. This doesn’t seem to be a fluke. To whom can we complain?!?!

Same problem here. They repaired the right side in July , but now they have stopped responding to me completely. I have made at least 20 phone calls to the customer service number. I can afford to fix it, but it isn't right that I should have to. This is the 1st new car I've purchased in 30 years...I take excellent care if it. This is a Ford problem but they are making it a consumer problem. I am in for a class action lawsuit.

Just picked up a pre-owned 2017 Ford Escape SE Sport in Lightning Blue. It has the paint flaking-off the passenger-side pillar beside the windshield. Warranty has expired, so I guess I'm just going to have the the pillar repainted and hope for the best. Disappointing that a known issue is being ignored by Ford.

Ford was aware of this problem when it left the factory. They calculated it would be cheaper to require the customer to pay for a new paint job - instead of recalling the product. It won't hurt them, but I will never set foot on another Ford lot.

I own a 2017 Lightning Blue Escape. My paint is peeling at different areas of the windshield A Pillar on both sides. The dealership said that I am over the warranty period and that to fix it, they have to remove the windshield. I will then be forced to purchase a new windshield as they will break the one currently in place. The new WS is $862.70 plus labor. The whole cost would be $3,418 as per the estimate. This is a craftsmanship issue that is clearly more than a one-off thing. IfFord is unwilling to help me with the issue, then I am going to an attorney.

3/24/2021 I have just noticed paint flaking off my white 2017 Escape Titanium with 33,680 miles on it. On the left side of my windshield driver’s side the paint is flaking off in large pieces. It seems like it’s a defect in the paint because the metal behind where the paint is coming off is already discolored and looks like rust is forming on the metal. I don't see where repairing this area will be a permanent fix only a temporary repair. The only permanent fix should be a total repaint with a new warranty on the paint. This defect will also cause the vehicle to be devalued in a trade or sale. "FORD WILL YOU PLEASE HELP US ALL"?

I have the same peeling paint issue around my windshield on my 2017 Ford Escape. I believe it to be a design flaw when they decided to remove the molding around the windshield. Ford does need to recall this. It is a safety issue if unrepaired and begins to rust. Rust will eventually lead to windshield weakening and coming into the driver.

Well, add me to the list. I bought a 2017 Escape Titanium package that is white. Doesn't even have 21,000 miles on it yet. Washed it this past Sunday and noticed about half of the paint was peeled off by the driver's side of the front window. I called the dealership that I bought it from and it doesn't appear that the extra warranty I purchased through them covers the paint. They told me to take certain pictures of the the spot and of my car and they would sent it to Ford to see if they would fix it. From the looks of what I have been reading here...I'm not expecting a positive result.

Same Problem with my White Ford Escape at 49,000 miles around my windshield. This is definitely a Manufacturing defect and Ford Motor should take responsibility. My dealer filed a claim with Corporate and they would only pay for half, the total was $928.68, so out of pocket I had to pay $464.34. Same issue with my Ford Escape but it is a 2018, pearl white. Paint has peeled on the pillar by the windshield on the driver’s side and is starting on the passenger side. Have had the vehicle for only 2 1/2 years but was 4000 miles past the standard warranty. Dealer sent pictures to Ford and claim was denied. What does mileage have to do with peeling paint? Still under the 3 years. Traded in my Toyota to go back to American made Ford but am now regretting it.

I also have a 2017 blue Escape. Paint down to the metal around windshield in spots. Found a spot on the hatch back, clear coating peeling. It’s clear to me after reading all these complaints there is a factory problem with the paint. Will contact the dealership this week and see what they say. Not feeling very hopeful after reading all these comments.

My car has never been in an accident of any kind. I take excellent care of it. Class action or recall by Ford seem like viable options. I hope Ford does the right thing here. From what I see, we are all having the same problem at relatively the same time. I'll check back periodically.

I have the 2017 Ford Escape Titanium in the blue color and it is doing the same exact thing in the valley by the windshield. Dealership can't help because it is not covered under the extended warranty (shocker) and Ford has not responded up to this point so I figure that is going to be a no go. Sounds like defective paint product that Ford needs to handle.

2017 Lightening Blue Escape SE. We bought it brand new and just 2 weeks after 3 year warranty up, we went through a car wash (which we do regularly), got home and noticed the paint peeled down to metal on both sides of windshield. We only had 10,000 miles on this SUV. Our dealership said they couldn’t help as just past warranty. So disappointed!!!! We are going to order an OEM repair kit to fix ourselves. Can’t be any worse than it is now. Hoping for a recall in the future. At least we aren’t alone and I am not trading our vehicle in as I love it!!!

I bought this suv brand new, 2 months after my warranty went out, I had it at the Ford dealership for maintenance, I noticed the little pieces of paint gone from around the windshield. Now I have big chunks gone from all over the top and the pillars are starting. ABSOLUTELY NO HELP FROM FORD... We went to Maaco they want around 2000.00 just to do the top and around the windshield. There are a number of YouTube videos for doing patch spray on paint fixes and as long as you buy the right products you should be fine. There's a great company called: https://www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/. I have used them a number of times and they mix the paint from the numbers in your car door and can do metallic flaked paint perfectly. Just use the right primers an automotive, enamel primer. Okay so like everybody else here it's the same issue. It begins with the a-pillars it begins feeling like there and at the top portion of the insurance. Or from your absolutely nothing. They are invading any kind of responsibility. Mine began just after the 3-year 36000 mile warranty ran out. Ford states that the corrosion warranty will not cover it. I went back for it again to documents when I continued complaints at the dealership where I purchased there. The last person was helpful and I found out that I have an extended corrosion warranty that was supposedly added the purchase price of the car when I bought it new. I am looking into seeing if I can force them to cover it. Adam it to properly fix the issue is $2,400. I will never buy a Ford product again. I take impeccable care of the vehicle.

Paint below specifications, chemical engineer says Chemical engineer Stephen Gaiski with the Zestar Corporation in Detroit used to do work for the auto manufacturer. He remembers visiting the Kansas City plant that builds the Escape a decade ago. According to Gaiski, "Ford was using our technology for the metric, for the measurements on paint thickness, and we told the painting room manager and also the supplier — the paint supplier directly — that the Escapes were being painted below specifications." Gaiski said he told the company and its board about his concerns paint was being applied too thinly to the vehicles. "They said they would address the issue. Well, here we are years later, and it still hasn't been done," he said. Gaiski helps car owners challenge Ford and Ford dealerships in small claims court. He said it's unlikely anything larger — such as a class action suit — would get results. "If it's not a design or a safety issue, then I personally believe they're not going to have much luck," he said.

Same issue as all above. Paint began peeling on my 2017 (one owner since new = me) Ford Escape beginning at 41K miles. I hand wash my car weekly on Saturdays and keep all my vehicles in impeccable condition. This is a major flaw that affects numerous Ford owners of Escapes, and appears to be most prevalent in the 2017 - 2019 model years. Unacceptable. The cost per Ford to properly fix the current issue at hand isapproximately $2000. Repainting a car will also reduce its residual value. My 2017 blue Ford Escape has the same issue. When I spoke to someone at Ford, I was told its a body issue they couldn't help me. I needed to call a body shop. This really seems to happen with a lot of the blue and white cars.

The paint is peeling off my 2017 Ford Esacpe around the windshield on passenger side. I took it the dealer I bought it from, they basically said nothing they can do. I have had my Escape for 1 year. I can't afford to have it painted!

I have a 2017 escape, lightning blue. I love it but the paint is peeling on both side of the windshield. I took it to my dealership, they submitted a claim, and Ford will cover half the cost, the rest is up to me. The total cost will be $1015.00. So maybe with enough pressure from enough people Ford will eventually cover it fully!!🤞

Me too - 2017 Escape (Canada) with peeling paint on the driver's side pillar next to the windshield. A class action suit is likely the only way to get redress, I'm told warranty won't respond.

I'm looking at a 1758.00 repair bill...not happy.

2017 Ford Escape White Pearlescent complained about this at 37,000 they would not fix it. It now effcts both sides of the windshield. Dealership said they didn't see any others come through like that. No help and was still making payment on a 30,000 car. Just wrong n so many levels. Side note they also have issues with the engines needing to be replaced and the transmissions. I have had to have both done already.

The paint on both windshield pillars on my white 2017 Escape started peeling at 48,000 miles. Out of the 36,000 warranty I was out of luck. Dealer charged $460 to repair with original paint.
