The 2018 Honda CR-V comes equipped with a timing chain instead of a timing belt. It has been using the chain since 2002 but before that it used to use the belt. The chain doesn't require as much maintenance as the belt which could be a reason why they switched over to the chain. The chain is meant to last for the life of the vehicle because it is on the inside of the engine and isn't exposed unlike the belt which is on the outside. However, there are time when the chain can end up failing even though they should last for the life of the vehicle. You should inspect the chain every 150,000 miles or so and to inspect it You just look at the tension and the sprockets.
