The 2018 Dodge Ram does come with MDS. MDS stands for multi displacement system and it is used to deactivate some cylinders when You are driving at highway speeds. Deactivating the cylinders is something that is done to help improve fuel economy in the truck. Once Your truck is moving at highway speeds it does not need to have all of the cylinders firing because it does not take a lot of power to maintain the speed that You are going at. The MDS system is standard on the 5.7L V8 engine only. If You do not have this engine then You will not have any cylinder deactivation.

Multi-Displacement System, or MDS, is when a large, high performance engine switches to a reduced cylinder output during low demand situations in order to increase the efficiency of the vehicle. Not surprisingly, the 2018 Ram 1500s that come with MDS are the 5.7 liter Hemi engine models. The models that have said 5.7 liter Hemi and come with MDS are: the Lonestar Silver crew cab 6.3Ft SB RWD and 4WD, the Lonestar crew cab 6.3Ft SB RWD and 4WD, the Harvest crew cab 6.3Ft SB RWD and 4WD, the Tradesman crew cab 6.3Ft SB RWD and 4WD, the Limited crew cab 5.6Ft Sb (RWD and 4WD) and 6.3Ft SB (RWD and 4WD), the Longhorn crew cab 5.6Ft SB (RWD and 4WD) and 6.3Ft SB (RWD and 4WD), the Laramie crew cab 6.3Ft SB RWD and 4WD, the Sport regular cab SB, the Sport crew cab 6.3Ft SB RWD and 4WD, the Big Horn crew cab 6.3Ft SB RWD and 4WD, the Night regular cab SB, the Night crew cab 6.3Ft SB 4WD, the Rebel crew cab 5.6Ft SB and the SLT Fleet crew cab 6.3FT SB RWD and 4WD.
