Over the last few years, may manufacturers have begun phasing out the CD player, much in the same way that tape decks were phased out as the 21st century rolled around. Fortunately, the 2018 Volvo XC60 still included the hardware, but it's not located where You may think; You'll find it inside of Your center console, and not on Your head unit itself. If Your music library is still made up primarily of physical hardware, this is probably about the time that You should begin converting; Your next new or used car has a good chance of no longer being fitted with a CD player. An analysis shows that fewer than 25% of new model years have the technology, so it'll soon be increasingly difficult to find.

In that case I won't be buying a new volvo. I will be keeping my 2015 xc 70 (which does have a cd player) until it collapses

No, the 2018 Volvo XC60 does not have a CD player. But wireless phone connectivity, via Bluetooth, is standard and will let you play music and other audio from your phone. The entertainment system also includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and SiriusXM AM/FM/HD/Satellite radio with subscription.
