The third row of seats in a Ford Explorer have been known to have some problems in the past, but none of them have been widespread enough for Ford to issue any recalls related to it. The problems vary by the year of the vehicle and the features that are installed. The most common problem is with the newer Explorer models that have power fold third row seats. If the motors or gears get damaged that control this system then they will not fold properly and that can lead to problems with them. In older vehicles the frame for the third row seats had been known to get out of alignment and that could lead to them not folding evenly or easily as well.

The connecting latch under the seat slips off on my 2014 model. Tried to adjust the under seat bar but it doesn't slide due to bolt holes the whole assembly appears to be wrong size. Design problem?

Third row broken driver's side 2016 Explorer. Ford says not a part covered by warranty because it's considered trim. Seems pretty unsafe to me to have a 3rd row seat broken and seems to be pretty widespread.

The third row seating on the ford explorer has had a few problems over the years including seats that won't fold, bad motor gears causing the seats to stop elevating, and heated seat issues.
