Ford designed the Ecoboost engine to provide power and torque while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving fuel economy. They did this by powering a smaller engine through direct injection fuel technology, replicating the force of engines with larger displacements. However Ford recalled over 230,000 1.6 liter Ecoboost vehicles froM2013 to the 2015, due to an oil leak oil from faulty head gaskets that put owners at risk for fire and certain overheating. The added recall of the 1.0 liter as well, gave the engine a bad rap and when the 1.5 was introduced, some wondered whether it would suffer the same fate as its predecessors. The good news for 1.5 Ecoboost owners is that as the 1.6's replacement, the re-engineering has proven effective and official reviewers find little to few problems with this design.
2015 focus. Coolant leaking away in the engine. Engine exchanged luckily just within warranty. 10.000 euros repair! So, no problems with this engine....? I dont think so!

These are not reliable. The cylinder walls are weak and will develop cracks or allow the head gasket to slow fail. This causes a coolant intrusion into the cylinder where the engine begins to seep into the cylinder. This will slowly cause the engine to run rough, eventually it won't run anymore. The only fix is to replace the engine. I was just quoted $7,400 to replace the engine in my 2017 Fusion. This is so common they have the engine and parts to change the engine in stock!
Yes, the 1.5l is garbage. Cylinder walls collaped causing coolant to leak into the engine. Had to have engine replaced. 104k miles.

Just like the 1.6 l the 1.5 l has the same problems. Apparently Ford can't defend an engine to save their life. Mine blew up at 108,000 miles. How can Ford make such a crappy engine for so long from 2013 to 2019.

The ford fusion 1.5 Ecoboost engine is considered reliable, with few problems reported, especially when compared to the 1.6 Ecoboost system. Unlike the 1.6 Ecoboost, the ford 15.5 Does not experience problems with its cooling system and is not prone to overheating.
