The Honda Pilot comes with a timing belt on the engine to keep the timing with the cams. You should make sure to change the timing belt at least every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. If it fails it could cause permanent damage to Your engine. The timing belt service is the most expensive piece of routine maintenance that You will need to do on Your SUV. This is mostly because of the labor that is involved to access it. I recommend You have Your water pump changed at the same time since they are both near each other and it could save You on labor in the future. You never want to let a timing belt wear out because it can completely destroy an engine.

All honda pilot vehicles use a timing belt instead of a timing chain.
