The XX uses a timing chain which requires less maintenance over a belt. The chain synC-HRonizes the timing of the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves and firing of the cylinders. This is done buy linking the crankshaft to the camshaft. The crankshaft is what moves the pistons up and the camshaft controls the opening and closing of the valves. When the timing is off, the engine performance will be diMINIshed, it will mIS Fire and have reduced accelerator response and cause no starts. There is also a possibility for a piston to hit one of the valves causing catastrophic engine damage. The timing can get thrown off because of a stretched chain or broken gear cog.
