The INFINITI G7 uses a timing chain to control the synC-HRonization between the crankshaft and camshaft. The timing chain receive constant lubrication from the engine oil and typically will last the lifetime of the vehicle. Usually, the chain will need servicing at around 100,000 miles but that is to replace the chain tensioners and guides. The timing chain controls for position of the crankshaft in relation to the camshaft, which controls the opening and close the valves during the pistons stroke. As the piston goes up the intake valve opens and air and fuel mixture is injected into the cylinder. The gas gets compressed and the spark plug fires. The fuel gets burned, pushing the piston down and the exhaust valve opens pushing the gas into the exhauSTSystem. If the tensioners get too slack the chain could skip a tooth which would throw the timing off and could eventually cause the piston to smash into one of the valves and destroy the engine.

The INFINITI G37 has a timing chain instead of a timing belt.
