If You're seeing a message that You need to check the compass module on Your 2005 Ford Expedition, it's alerting You to the fact that either the connection for the compass has become loose or damaged, or that You need to calibrate it, with it typically just being a loose connection. The module sits on the dash on Your (driver's) side; so, if something knocks against it, it can put it out of alignment, resulting in this message. If You need to calibrate the compass, You'll want to find an area that's in the open and free of any large metal objects. Turn the ignition on, and on the set up menu, press the vehicle information button until You can get to the Press To Calibrate Compass screen. Just press the set/reset button here to start the process. You'll then drive in circles at 5 mph to complete the calibration, at which point a message will display that the calibration is complete.

Issues with the compass module on the expedition can be diagnosed by examining the module itself, contained in the rear view mirror.
