You have to warm up Your Chevy Silverado and leave it running. On the back of the engine, You'll see the dipstick in a long tube that goes to the transmission. You check that with the engine warm and running. The ATF should be in the crosshatched marked area on the dipstick. The fluid should be a bright red. You will need a funnel and the correct ATF fluid for Your truck. Dexron-VI is the type of transmission fluid that is recommended for Your truck. If the fluid is dark red, You will need a fluid and filter change. If it's amber or darker, You need it checked.

You'll see the dipstick on the back of the engine in a long tube which goes to the transmission. With the engine warm and working you test that. The atf should be at the dipstick in the crosshatched marked area. Fluid should be sparkling white.
