If You get a dash light on Your diesel-powered Ford Transit that says "Exhaust Overloaded, Drive to Clean" (or "Exhaust at Limit, Drive to Clean Now"), You should know that it's important to drive Your vehicle soon. Your Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is at capacity, or 100% plugged. You should begin driving as soon as possible when this happens, and the message should turn to "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" on its own. The computer will have initiated an active regen, which is accomplished by feeding raw fuel that will ignite as it enters the DPF. This burns at 950 to 1050 degrees Fahrenheit, which should be enough to reignite the soot left. Note that You should drive at least 30 miles per hour (but preferably 55mph to 65mph) for a period of 15 to 30 minutes for the active regen to have full effect.

Ford transits are garbage.

The dpf burns soot from the engine into ash and is trapped by a filter. As more and more residue builds up in the filter, it must be cleaned. This cleaning process is called regeneration or regen for short. This means you should drive your ford transit when this message comes on.

This is ridiculous. Have been driving in eco mode to refuse fuel costs and environmental impact. Got this message. Had to drive hard and fast on single track road to clear because I live remotely. Is this for real???!

I thought that it would just do it itself as I drove. I realised when I clicked "ok" it was like accepting the process to begin, then after a few mins or 10 it began the real process after a further 15 mins it was done. I drove between 30&50MPH roads.

I have had diesel vehicles for years and never come across this before, it seems this only applies to Fords and is an absolute joke, I'm am submitting a claim under the diesel claims case. Mine is a 2019 Ford Torneo Connect and of the 28k on the clock I would estimate at least 700 to 1000 miles has been for this. Changing it soon cannot wait!

We have a transit connect Van, had it from new and this warning has come on every week that we've owned it, it's a massive waste of diesel, having to drive around to clean it, not to mention bad for the environment, we won't ever buy another that's for sure.

They can run a test to make sure the system is working. You have to demand the test.

This happened today on my ford courier sport which is 2 years old and has 20 thousand miles on the clock. Took it for a good 20 min run up the road in 5th gear and 2500 revs and it sorted it out,

I'm a courier and I'm nipping from house to house so I'm not driving it hard. So therefore when the message comes on i almost redline it and it sorts it self out after 5 mins. But nowI kinda drive it hard to keep message off.

My work van has just 60K on it & has been back to the dealer several times for this issue. They physically cleaned filter twice & replaced the plumbing! So they said, under warranty. Warranty is up next month. Seriously considering gutting the re gen system completely once warranty is up! Seems worse in the cold & I could fill a mall parking lot with toxic purple haze in minutes… Not impressed @ all

I've had my truck over 2 years. Day I bought it (used with 57,000 miles) check engine light came on. Dealer has been awesome, changed everysensor multiple times & in September replaced the Filter assembly under warranty. Truck now at 93000 Mike's. Just started doing regen daily both ti work and home 30 minute drives. Fueled up and started long 1 hr ride home truck started regen. Got almost home and truck started another regen. Has done all week. Yesterday got message filter overload drive to clear. Spoke with dealer and he suggested a bad sensor. Had another truck in recently with same issue. Will schedule service soon. Justchanged fuel & ail filter and oil & filter

Just had the message on my dash I went immediately on a drive for 20 mins just staying in lower gears to keep the rpm between 2-4rpm for most is the drive after 15 mins the message disappeared from the dash As an added precaution I will purchase some redex DPF additive in the morning Hopefully that will be problem solved Normally I do a lot of long journeys but of late only very short stop start trips in traffic so maybe this is the cause
