Four wheel drive sends power to all four axles at once, providing the Silverado with more traction in hazardous conditions. The option to power off the 4WD, means the system is considered "part-time" and is engaged when off-roading or traveling over ice and gravel. Use the Silverado's dash dial to switch between "automatic", "high" and "low" options. In automatic mode, the truck will move between 2WD and 4WD without driver input when road conditions dictate. On a "low" 4WD setting, the truck will maximize torque in all four wheels for especially slippery or unstable surfaces. "High" operation is used for less off-roading and driving that requires more robust handling. Keep in mind, operating in high or low modes puts extra strain on the transmission and should be used sparingly.
I have an 04 silverado which is the newest truck I've owned so I'm not as familiar with the push button 4wheel drive, I just want to make sure I can switch between 4hi and 2hi and auto while in park without damaging anything like older model chevys had to be in park. And can I use while operating and a slow speed, can I do both?

To engage 4 wheel drive in a 2004 chevy silverado you will need to use the lever located next to the transmission.

I have an '04 1500 LT. It is push button, not dial like on my F250. Top to bottom is Auto 4WD, 2WD, High 4WD, then Low 4WD.
