When the computer is acting up in Your Chevy Cobalt the first thing that You should do is try to read the ECU for any codes using an OBD II scan tool. If everything looks good with the scan then You can go ahead and try to reset the ECU. To reset the computer disconnect both cables from Your battery and place them together. This will allow all the electricity stored in the system to drain out. You will want to allow them to be disconnected for at least ten minutes. This usually will fix the computer system and allow it to completely reboot.

The car should be off and you disconnect the positive battery terminal and touch the cable you unhooked to the strut tower bolt where it is grounded out then wait 5 to 10 min b4 re connecting the positive terminal back to the positive on the battery.
