Resetting the Chevrolet Silverado computer is an easy task that only takes about 4 to 7 minutes of Your time. The firSTStep You need to take is to go to the front of Your vehicle, and open the hood. Now, take a look at the engine bay, and locate Your battery. It should be near the front of the compartment, near the engine. Remove the negative terminal from Your battery. You will need to use a socket wrench to do this. Next, flip Your headlights on. This will fully drain the computer, or ECM. Wait for around 10 to 15 minutes. Then, turn the headlights off, and reconnect the negative terminal to Your battery. Start Your engine, and the computer should be reset.

Remove the nut off the negative battery cable with a socket set or wrench. Slide the cable off of the battery and put it aside. Turn the headlight switch to the "on" position to drain the ecm of any remaining power. Wait at least 10 minutes, then turn it back to the "off" position.

Great tip. I had a problem with 2015 chevy Tahoe. The radiator fan continued to run after I turned off the vehicle. I changed the temperature sensor and the thermostat and the fan still ran as soon as I started the engine and after I turned it off. Took the battery cable off and reinstalled after 10 mins and it stopped.

I have a question for you guys how come my 1995 GMC Yukon is losing power and has a knocking sound at about 40 mph this just started recently now mind you there's no check engine light there's no problem with the fluids there's nothing the computer can tell me it reads 12 but it's driving like c**p is it a computer thing is it a valve thing what do you guys think and also the truck doesn't want to start it takes a lot of stepping on the gas to start it and I did a timing on it as well it's on Mark check the distributor rotor and cap everything's fine it's all in its firing order I just don't get it so is there anybody out there that would know something about this because wouldn't the check engine light or smoke coming out the exhaust or any of that matter should be happening like overheating it doesn't overheat stays at its level it's supposed to be all the fluids are full and at its mark and nothing nothing changes it I change the spark plugs the wires numerous sensors have been changed I changed the water pump recently the only thing that I can come up with is I was trying to put a car alarm in my truck for getting that it already has door entry and when I remembered that I took out the car alarm that I was installing and then called it a night when I got the next morning the battery was dead and had to get a jump start well when I did that there was an arc underneath my steering column where I connected the power to the car alarm to and it wasn't covered completely so it was arcing on the plate where the wires been around and your steering column if anybody is familiar with that so I fixed that and it started but then it started running bad like really really rough like it need to be retired or the timing chain jumped so I took it to a friend's who had a timing gun and we timed it to 0 like it's supposed to be and we also went through all the spark plug wires even check the spark plugs and nothing so my buddy suggested possibly getting some different spark plugs the copper ones but that's what it's supposed to have so I did that put them in still the same thing now mind you I've been driving this because I got to get my kid to school and it's about 25 miles to the school everyday and this has been going on for about a week now and my buddy who went to mechanic school he stumped he doesn't know what it could be because if it was anything internally the check engine light would come on for number one and number two there would be some signs coming out the exhaust like smoke or anything that like that sort but the check engine light should be on it should be also overheating you know all that but it's not doing none of that everything is where it needs to be but it won't start and when it does finally start it dries rough and Knox about at 45 mph and then which is weird goes away at about 70 mph so does anyone have any answers for me out there in the car world cuz I need some help thanks

This didn’t reset my ECM. The issue I’m having is the CCM says Incomplete. The EGR and MIS are OK. Been driving and doing drive cycles for a couple hundred miles and still says incomplete. Recently had check engine light and had repairs done for glow plug relay and replaced 1 glow plug. And replaced EGR Vacuum hose.
