The first thing You should try to do if Your security system goes off for Your 2000 Nissan Xterra is use Your key to unlock the driver's side door. If it is unlocked then lock it and unlock. Once in Your vehicle put the key in the ignition for 10 minutes in the on position and then go ahead and start up the engine. If You are still struggling with the alarm at this point it's possible that Your vehicle has an after market third party alarm installed and You're going to need to determine what type it is before You can reset it.
