To clear the 2002 Toyota RAV4's main computer or ECU, disconnect the negative cable of the under-hood battery which should be located on the driver's side of the engine. Wait at least 30 minutes. Reconnect the battery's cable and fire the engine. Let the car idle for 15 minutes. Turn the Rav4 off and take the key out of the ignition. Reinsert key but shift to the "acc" or "on" position and then "off" again. Repeat this cycle 3 times witH3 second intervals in between each step. At the end of the third cycle, turn the engine on once again. Place Your foot on the brake and move the shifter into "drive" mode, keeping the brake engaged. Wait for 3-4 minutes to allow the ECU to reset and complete an "idle relearn". Place the car into park and the ECU should be reset.

To reset the ecu in a 2002 toyota rav4, you start with the ignition key, but in the off place, press and hold down the reset odometer button with one hand. Switch the ignition key to location 1 (first click) with the other hand when keeping the button down. The computer is going to have a number and the word "test."

And, what after that? You say, it'll have a number and the word "Test" displayed. So, now what do I do? Do I sit and look at the "number and the word "Test"" next to it? How do I know the reset has completed? When can I start using my car agsin?
