To reset the alarm on the 2004 Nissan Xterra You have two options. You can pop the hood and disconnect the positive battery cable, then leave it off for about 30 minutes. This will make the power in the CPU drain, which will force the system to reset itself the next time it comes on. The other option is to pull the fuse from the fuse boxAnd wait a similar amount of time. This will do the same thing but will be more targeted. If You pull the battery it will reset a lot of things. If You just pull the fuse then it will only rest the alarm, but You will need to look at the fuse diagram and figure out which fuse is correct.

To reset the 2004 nissan xterra security system put the key in the run position for 10 minutes, turn the key off, then wait five seconds, then start it.

I have an 04 xterra, security alarm and horn was going off. When horn stopped, I still could not get the key to turn over the ignition. Lights etc worked but not the ignition. I pulled the ignition start fuse on the bottom left hand corner of the fuse box under dash and it started.
