If You're looking to reset the check engine light on Your 2005 Chevrolet Impala, first ensure that You've fixed any issues associated with the codes that Your onboard diagnostics are throwing. Failure to do so will result in the check engine light coming back on, sometimes quite soon. It's also very disingenuous to do if You're resetting the light to conceal issues from potential buyers. There's no proprietary way to reset the '05 Impala's check engine light -- You'll either need an OBD-II scan tool, or a bit of patience. In the first case, You should be able to clear the associated codes, and the light will go out on its own. In the latter case, disconnect the negative battery terminal for 30 minutes or more. When You reconnect it and start the engine, the codes should have cleared, and the light should stay off.
