Air bag lights can be activated by faulty sensors or if wiring in the 2009 Dodge Journey's door frame has become impaired. Check underneath front seats also for disconnected harnesses or a seatbelt stuck in the locked position. All these components contribute to airbag alerts and can create an active warning. The Journey's airbag system is considered "self-healing" which means if the problem causing the warning is addressed, the warning will automatically be disabled the next time the vehicle is started. To diagnose, connect an OBDII trouble code scanner to the Journey's OBD port. Follow the prompts to reach airbag settings and scan for trouble codes. When the issue causing the illuminated SRS light is discovered, have a reliable mechanic repair to clear the alerts. Note: it is never advisable to repair or examine any part of the system without first disconnecting the battery.

To reset the airbag light in your 2009 dodge journey, turn the ignition to on without starting the engine. Wait for the airbag to illuminate and then shut off. Once it's off, turn the ignition to off immediately. Wait three seconds and repeat the process two more times. Start the engine after the final time and the light should be reset.
