If You've already changed the oil in Your 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (and the filter, too, I hope), but still have the reminder light on, here's how You go about fixing that. You'll need to use the buttons located on Your steering wheel, on either of the lower spokes. First, turn the ignition on, but don't start the engine. Next, press the FUEL button on Your steering wheel until You see the OIL LIFE amount show up on the instrument cluster. With that displayed, press and hold the ENTER button. The words "Change Engine Oil" will flash. You'll see "Oil Life Reset" display for 15-20 seconds thereafter. When You see the Engine Oil Life: 100% display, You're done. Everything's reset, and You can go ahead and turn the ignition off and go about with Your day, assured You won't have to do this for at least another 3,000 miles.

To reset the oil life warning or maintenance light in your 2012 Chevy silverado 1500 vehicle, turn the ignition key to the "on" position and depress the gas pedal slowly three times. Release and start your vehicle and oil light should indicate a reset.

Press the little nob on the instrument cluster until you find the engine oil life, keep the nob depressed until it shows 100% then release.
