If You're considering replacing the power steering pump on Your 2005 Ford Freestyle, it's recommended that You first check Your radiator. If it's plugged, it'll often manifeSTSimilar symptoms to a failing PS pump; it's an easier fix, so it's worth checking out first. If You've definitely determined that Your PS pump is the issue, You can replace the pump by removing the fluid reservoir (and replacing the seals when reinstalled). Drain the cooling system, and remove the drive belt and belt tensioner. Jack the vehicle up from the oil pan (using a block of wood to absorb impact). Remove the engine mount, and raise the engine to access the PS pulley. Remove the pulley by removing the three bolts. Disconnect the lines from the PS pump and raise the front end of the vehicle. Remove the splash shields from the passenger's side, and unbolt the AC compressor (leaving the lines connected). Remove the radiator hose, and finally You'll have access to unbolt the pump and remove it. Installation is the reverse of the above steps, making sure to remember that You replace the seals with new in each instance You removed them.
