To replace a spark plug on the 2011 Ford Escape, raise the hood and unclip 4 fasteners to lift the plastic engine cover. Remove the exposed air filter. Disconnect the air intake snorkel and continue to remove connectors holding various parts of the air intake assembly. When access is reached use A5/8" spark plug socket equipped with a magnet at the end to pull the faulty plugs. Use a ratchet to turn the socket around the previously installed plugs to lift out. Compare the new plug's threads to the threads of the plug that has been removed. If the threads are not the same length, the end of the part will collide with the piston and cause internal engine damage. Slide the new part into place with the socket and tighten with the wrench.
