From time to time, it's expected that the 2012 Ford Focus's blend door actuator will fail. The cogs inside are made of plastic, so they're particularly prone to becoming damaged. In order to replace, You'll first need to locate the actuator, which is located in the middle of the car. Once You've determined the location of Your blend door actuator, You'll need to gain access. Some users report being able to see it from behind the glove box, but in order to get better access, it's recommended that You remove the passenger's side of Your dashboard. You'll see two Philips head screws holding it in place. Once You remove these (careful, because it's a tight fit!), You'll need to remove the electrical harness, and will be able to swap it out.

The entire dash does not need to be removed for this job. You can remove the glove box, relocate the fuse panel and take the plastic side paneling from the center console. It's a tight fit bit far from removing the entire dash/steering column.

First off all, you can’t just remove the passenger side dash, just did a job on one of these. The entire dash needs to come out. Including your steering column. It’s a serious pain. But for just the actuator, you shouldn’t need to take the dash bracket out, which i had too for the AC coil. So it’s not “as” bad. But it’s still a pain.
