Resetting the computer in Your 2003 Chevy Cavalier is something You may have to do whether You are trying to clear a fault code or attempting to cure an abnormal behavior. The easiest way is to disconnect the battery for around 15 minutes. This gives the electronic components enough time to fully drain all power and therefore lose all stored memory. This also applies to Your radio stations, so write them down if You are worried about losing them. You want to disconnect the negative terminal only, not the positive. The only other way to reset the ECU is to physically disconnect the wire harnesses that plug into it. This does the same thing as disconnecting the battery but only affects the computer.

Unplug the neg cable to the battery for 1/2 hour. You may have to do this a couple of times if it does not work the 1st time.

Open the hood to reset the chevy cavalier computer from 2003. Using your pliers or wrench to separate the positive end cable from the plug. Go into your car's fuse box, and see the diagram. Pick the "ecm" fuse, and disable this fuse. ... Leave the car truncated like this for two or three minutes or clear the memory of the machine.
