If You have a scan tool, or an OBD-II bluetooth dongle with the applicable mobile apps, You can easily reset the engine control module (ECM) with those for Your 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. Barring that, You can use the time tested method of removing power to the ECM. Pop the hood of Your Cobalt and find Your battery. It'll be a square looking thing with two metal terminals on the top, both with cables to them. Use a wrench and loosen the bolts on the cable with a black or bare end (the other should be red). This is the negative cable. You want to go ahead and remove that, and then let Your vehicle sit for around haLFAn hour, after which, You'll reattached that same cable. Your ECM should now be reset. Don't forget to close the hood to Your engine before You try driving Your vehicle!

You can reset the computer by removing the negative battery terminal and waiting 30 minutes before reattaching.
