During normal operation of a Chevrolet Silverado, You probably won't need to reset the speedometer. However, there are instances where You do, such as malfunctions or other defects. The good news is that while it's a relatively involved procedure, there's nothing about it that's too complex or difficult for most amateur automotive enthusiasts to complete. First, You'll need to remove the cover from the instrument cluster. Next, unscrew the screws with an 8mm wrench. You'll now have access to pull the speedometer portion from the instrument cluster. Pull on the brackets holding the glass onto the speedometer, until the glass comes out. Then, You'll push the speedometer needle down to "0". Finally, reverse the above steps to reinstall the speedometer into the dashboard of Your Silverado.

To reset the speedometer in a chevy silverado you need to unplug the battery for roughly 5 minutes then reconnect it and the speedometer should clear up.
