To reset the ECU on a 2002 Nissan Maxima You will need to disconnect the negative battery terminal. To do this pull the hood release lever inside the passenger compartment then go to the outside the vehicle and unlatched the hood and lift it up. The battery is on the passenger side front corner of the engine compartment. Use a 10-millimeter socket and ratchet or wrench and turn the nut on the battery terminal counterclockwise just enough that the cable can be disconnected. Let the car sit with the battery disconnected for about 10 minutes then go back to it and tighten the cable back up put the key in ignition and turn it to the on position and wait for about one minute. The vehicle will begin cycling various components and this will reset the ECU.
