Resetting the anti-theft device in the 2002 Ford Explorer is a very simple process. However, it can take 10 to 30 minutes to do, so make sure Your battery is fully charged. You won't be able to start the vehicle until the reset has finished. To begin, turn the key in the ignition as if You were trying to start the engine. The engine won't start since the anti-theft system has been activated. Allow the key to fall back into the ON position so the dashboard lights and radio still work. Leave the key like this for at least 10 minutes. If the light is off, turn the ignition completely off for a few minutes. Then, try to start the vehicle again. If it starts, the resetting process has been completed. If the light is still on or if it doesn't start when You turn the key, start the process over again.

If the alarm system keeps going off, you put the key in the driver side door, turn it once to the left four times to the right and then start the car.
