To reset the transmission on a BMW E46, turn off the vehicle and take the key out. If You have a blade key, insert it into the ignition and turn it to the second position but do not start the car. If You have a key fob, stick it in and push the Start Stop button but do not start the car, so keep Your foot away from the brake. All the lights on the dash are going to light up and once they do push down and hold the accelerated pedal all the way down for 30 seconds. Take Your foot off of the pedal once the 30 seconds are up and hit the Start Stop button and pull Your key out. Finally open the drivers door, and then close it . This will reset the transmission.

To reset the BMW e46 transmission, you turn on the ignition without your foot on the brake, so the engine doesn't start. Press the accelerator on the floor for 15 seconds. Release the accelerator, then turn the car off and start the engine and drive.
