If the check engine light has turned on in a 2008 Ford Focus the first thing that You should do is pull off the road to a safe place to stop. Once You are safely stopped You should use an OBD II scan tool to read the code in the engine. Codes can be thrown for very simple things like a loose gas cap, all the way up to serious engine faults like cam problems. I recommend that You read the code before You reset it. If it is a serious fault it will just turn back on again. Always try to fix the problems that pop up and turn on the check engine light rather than just disabling it.
