If You're caught without a TPMS tool but still need to reset Your Ford Escape's system, You can try the following procedure. It's not nearly as reliable as it would be with a calibration tool, so don't expect a perfect record of success. Still, it's better than nothing. Ensure Your tires are inflated to manufacturer's spec. Toggle the ignition between ON and OFF three times, press and release the brake once, then toggle the ignition between ON and OFF three more times, leaving it at ON during the final cycle. Once You see the "Train left front tire" message on the LCD display, You should slowly release the air from each tire as indicated. The difference is instead of using a tool, You'll be slowly releasing air.

Turn the ignition key on and off three times. Hit the brake one time, and then turn the ignition on and off three more times. The last time, leave the ignition on and then the dash should display a message.

Leave drivers door open during relearn procedure. If the vehicle has been sitting more than a half hour the sensors turn off to save battery life so you will have to wake them up by driving the vehicle over 20 mph for 2 min. Park the vehicle on a flat surface. Reset procedure must be started within 30 minutes. With key in the ignition in the on (aux) position turn key from off to on 3 times ending in the on position. Press and release the brake pedal once. Turn key from off to on (aux) 3 times ending in the on position. Press and release the brake pedal once. The horn should sound once to signify relearn procedure started and a message saying train LF (drivers) tire will display. Start releasing air from tire. Once you have released 25% of the air the sensor should signal and horn will honk once. Message will now display train RF tire. Start releasing air... Then RR tire and ending with RL tire. If the horn does not honk sensor was not recognized. If horn honks 2x at any point the procedure has timed out andyou'll have to restart the entire procedure. Possible failure reasons: incompatible tpms sensor. Faulty tpms sensor. Faulty tpms receiver. Dead battery in tpms sensor.
