To reset the throttle control on Your 2004 Ford F-150 turn the key to the on position(engine off). Then slowly depress the gas pedal all the way to the floor. Quickly release the gas pedal, so that it comes back up on its own. Turn the key to the off position and repeat the cycle 3 times. Turn the engine on. If Youve never done this, have any throttle issues, any idle issues, or use cruise control a lot I would recommend doing this. This vital sensor allows Your engine to maintain a proper amount of air. This feature is dependent on the throttle valve. When You press down on the gas pedal, Your throttle body unit's valve opens. This causes Your throttle position sensor to adjust the engine intake manifold accordingly.

The key to this is to figure out the correct combination to use the key and the brake pedal. It depends on the model but that is the way to reset it.

How long after you reset Your TPS will the code be dropped from the scanner?

Disconnect the Battery. Isolate the negative terminal with rubber or something non conductive, jump the negative and positive terminals for about 10 min to drain capacitors. Re-connect the battery negative cable. Turn key to the on position for a few seconds. Start the vehicle and let it come to operating temperature, go for a normal ride. I recommend cleaning the MAF sensor with CRC QD electronic cleaner when it is cold. This solves a LOT of idle problems.
