To reset the liftgate opening angle on the 2019 Toyota Highlander, begin by opening the back door. Next push and hold the power back door switch on the back door for about 7 seconds, a buzzer will sound 4 times, paus for a couple seconds then sounds 2 more times. This will set the liftgate to the maximum opening angle. To set the angle, open the rear door and push the power back door switch until the door is at the desired height and push switch again. Finally push and hold the switch for about 2 seconds, the buzzer will sound 4 times. Now when the rear door is opened, it will only go as high as You set it.

To reset the liftgate on a Toyota Highlander you will need to open it manually then hold down the button until it closes.

When I try to press and hold, the gate begins closing. Am I doing something wrong?

When you say”close” what do you mean? Do I push the button again or do you mean use the button on the steering wheel or manually close the door?

Make sure the liftgate is open and still. Press and hold the rear liftgate close button until it beeps 4 times. Then keep holding it until it beeps again and then let go. Close liftgate.

My 2018 Toyota Highlander XLE pre-owned has an opening straight across the top of the power lift gate right under the fin. I have had nothing to touch that area, so why this opening? It looks as though it is split open by me hosting using the power lift gate. Please help?
